Interested in getting some new tools to help you with your DIY pest control activities? Here are a few good reasons as to why cordless power drills are insanely useful tools to have.

First off, power drills are EXTREMELY versatile tools to have around the house. Cordless power drills are essentially a tool that you can use to drill holes into many different objects. After drilling a hole into an object, you can then screw a nail into that newly created hole to place two different objects together.

For instance, I could take my cordless power drill and use it to build a fence to help protect our garden.

For a DIY power drill, the main thing you want in your tool is a long lasting battery life and something that won’t break if you drop it. The recommendations that I have below are are some of the best tools on the market that I feel fit those criteria.

Personally, I use tools around my property on a regular basis. Nothing too crazy, but we’ve gone out and boughten expensive tool kits only to realize that we only needed HALF of what was in them. My purpose for this is to help you find the right tool for whatever DIY project you’re doing. Let’s not waste any money here.

Best Cordless Power Drills for DIY Projects

Dewalt Drill Review

I have a few favorite drills here. The first is the Dewalt 20v Cordless Drill. My father I and both use this drill pretty extensively around the house. It’s a simple, compact enough drill that can take being dropped a few times (or a lot).

Yes, I’ve dropped this drill quite a bit and have had it for quite some time, it CAN take a good drop or two.

Many contractors love this drill because of it’s speed. It can drill up to 1,500 Rotations Per Minutes (RPM) which becomes VERY  apparent when working on larger projects. While it isn’t the fastest drill out there, it’s an extremely fast drill for it’s price range.

The drill also has a built in light as well, which is helpful when you’re working in dimly lit areas. You get TWO batteries with this kit, and each one will last you just about a full days worth of work. I’ve never really had any sort of issues with the batteries, as the lithium ion ones that come with it are very stable.

This Dewalt drill is an extremely versatile tool that’s still good for the smaller DIY projects that we need it for.

Just make sure you always have the second always charged because plugging in a dead battery is one of the worst things in the world.

Bosch Drill Review

If you have any trouble lifting heavier objects, have shoulder issues or work in tight spaces frequently, I HIGHLY recommend the Bosch 18v Cordless Drill. This is another drill that my Father and I use around the house. It’s our preferred drill when we’re on the go.

The drill weighs a total of 3 lbs. which is EXTREMELY light for a drill. It isn’t as fast as the Dewalt drill, but Bosch makes up for it by being extremely compact. For comparison sake, the Dewalt 20v Cordless Drill can reach up to 1500 Rotations Per Minute (RPM) while drilling. Conversely, the Bosch Drill can reach up to 1300 RPM while drilling.

Again, it’s VERY compact and my preferred drill for smaller projects. The drill comes with 2 batteries as well and each should last you around a full days worth of work.

If you have any trouble lifting heavier objects, then I would definitely recommend you try out the Bosch 18v Cordless Drill.

While the Dewalt and Bosch drills are in the upper 75% price range of cordless drills, I believe they present some of the best value on the market.

One drill that is extremely popular that I haven’t tried out is the Black and Decker 20V Cordless Drill. This drill generally runs about $30 – $40 less than both the Dewalt and Bosch cordless drills and is great for someone who only needs to use the drill once in a blue moon.

Additionally, the Black and Decker drill comes with a 10 piece drill bit set on Amazon, which allows you to avoid having to purchase another set. I would recommend getting this drill if you’re on slightly more of a budget and still want a quality drill.

You can check out the Black and Decker 20v Cordless Drill here.

With any type of cordless drill, you’ll likely need to purchase a drill bit set to use with the drill itself. Drill bits are attachments for the drill that allow you to drill different sized holes into different types of material. The Black and Decker drill comes with a 10 piece set of drill bits, but the Dewalt and Bosch drills do not.

I’ve put some suggestions for some durable drill bit sets in the next section below.

Best Drill Bit Recommendations for Power Drills

Don’t overthink drill bits here. You don’t need to go all out and get a SUPER expensive set, but you don’t want something too cheap that will break as soon as you accidentally pull it out at the wrong angle.

The purpose of drill bits is that they are an attachment on the end of your power drill. You place the drill bit on the end of your drill and then you use your drill to create a hole in a piece of wood or any other material you are using.

After using a drill bit, you then place a screw inside your drill to fasten your material together.

It isn’t super complex but if you get a bad set of drill bits, your screw wont fasten as well to your material and it could end up coming loose or apart after some time. Also, really cheap drill bits WILL break once you put the slightest bit tension at the wrong angle on them.

Here are some of the most affordable drill bits on the market that shouldn’t give you too many problems:

The Drill America Colbat set is VERY high quality but is by far the most expensive. If this is your first time buying drill bits, I would recommend getting either of the Dewalt drill bit sets.

However, if you’re rather experienced and you’ve used pricey drill bits before, The Drill America set comes highly regarded.
